“Low Key” Shoot with Ellen

I spent last Saturday in the studio with Ellen and tried my luck at low key photos. It took a lot of work getting the lighting just the way I wanted. Luckily, Ellen was very patient with me.

You’ll find more photo’s from this shoot in Ellen’s album.

Val in the Studio

Spent yesterday’s afternoon in the studio wit Val. Here’s a first look at the results from yesterday’s shoot.

Photoshoot with Kim, Karen and Kelly

photo

I had a photo shoot with Kim, Karen and Kelly today. Kim and Karen are 2 lovely sisters that had asked to do a shoot with me after seein’ the shoot I had done with Kelly earlier this year. They had never done a photo shoot before, so I tried to make it a fun experience.

I had picked the former coalmine of Waterschei as location. There are plenty of photo opportunities in and around the buildings. It’s one of my favorite locations.

I think the shoot was a success. I had a good time, and the girls told me they loved it too. And it showed, because I got a couple of good shots from the session. And I’ll work with the girls any time. So a very big thank you to Kim and Karen, and Kelly of course.

The first results are online. I’ll be expanding their album over the course of the week.

Model Shoot with Shirley and Inge

Models at Work

Luc and I did a shoot with Shirley and Inge last Sunday. Luc arranged to get access to quite a unique location. Lots of concrete, lots of big power tools… Lots of oportunities for fun shots. I had a great time, and I think that everbody else had fun too.

Thank you Shirley and Inge for the shoot, and also thanks to Sabrina Sas for doin’ the make up of the ladies.

More photos from this session in Shirley’s and Inge’s album.

Air Show KLu Leeuwarden

We drove way up north to Leeuwarden for the open days of the Dutch Air Force. But the 3 hour drive was worth the while, ‘cause the Blue Angels were there. It was their only European performance for 2006. They hardly ever get to Europe for a show. In fact, it had been over 10 years since their last visit to Europe.

These pictures have been almost 10 years in the making. I got my first glimpse at an air show by the Blue Angels when I visited Florida with friends. When I found out that the Blue Angels were practicing every Tuesday morning at Pensacola NAS, I changed our plans and made get everybody out of bed very early in the morning to go see the Blue Angels. When we got to the base, it was too cloudy for the Blue Angels to fly. So I never got to see them until now.

3rd Prize in Club Competition

Every year in October, DIFO, the photo club I belong too has an exhibition with the best work of their members. All the photos automatically enter a club competition. Every June, we select the best 3 black/white photos, the best 3 color photos and the best 3 slides.

I joined DIFO last September, so I’ll be showing off my work for the first time this year. 8 of my photos will be at the exhibition. And I also entered the club competition for the first time ever. Not having high hopes,

I won 3rd prize in the category Color Photo with this photo from models Dasha and Natascha. The photo was made during a model shoot at the Anco building.

I was totally surprised. Honestly, this is not one of these “I didn’t expect this” Oscar speeches. I consider myself to be a rookie in photography. I’ve got only a few years of experience. And to see that my work can compete with the work of my fellow photographers in the club makes me really proud.

Olmense Zoo

Here’s a couple of photo’s I made last Sunday at the Olmense Zoo (full album here).

The Olmense Zoo is a privately owned zoo. It’s a nice little zoo with lots of big cats. They’ve got some rather special ones too: white tigers, white lions, 2 little tiger cubs and 2 little lion cubs. Go and see them. They will be worth your while.
