Points of View

I attended Points of View, organized by CvB and FgA, tonight: an chance for photographers to show their work to a larger audience. 3 ladies presented their work: Karina Brys, Sanne Weckx and Janna Beck. They were supposed to give us a new fresh point of view on photography. They did! But to some it was either too technically imperfect or too gloomy. I know everybody is entitled to his/her opinion and one can not argue about taste. But one has to know how to express his/her point of view without having to resort to hurtfull remarks about photos that belong on toilet paper.

For what it’s worth, my point of view: let art be art. Art can be pretty, but doesn’t always have to be. Art always has to trigger an emotion. Respect the work of the maker, respect his/her opinion. Listen closely… You might learn something.

And BTW: Sanne, I loved your work!

Champagne Challenge

I always seem to look goofy or very angry on photos. Talking to some friends at a party, I came up with a good idea for a little contest: make me look good on a photo…

These are the rules:
(1) Your photo has to be recent. i.e. has to be made after october 2008;
(2) My face has to be recognizable;
(3) You may not alter the photo using Photoshop or the likes;
(4) The contest ends on october 1st, 2009.

Send your photos to me by mail. I will be the sole judge in this little contest. Maybe I’ll ask my sisters for their opinion too. The winner will be treated to a bottle of champagne. If there is a photo I like of course.

Your photo should make me look better than in these 2…

1st Apertura Expo Was a Big Succes

2 months of planning and hard work paid off tonight as we closed the very 1st Apertura Expo. We had the pleasure of welcoming almost 300 visitors. Most of them praised our expo and the quality of the works.

And honestly: I am pretty pleased with the expo as well. 13 Apertura members displayed 75 high quality photos. And I am sure that my friends at Apertura all look forward to next year’s expo. Thanks guys! ‘Cause your photos made all my hard work worthwhile.

Exposed at 8th Malmo Int’l

As a member of UPI (United Photographers International), I had been invited to enter 5 photos for the 8th Malmo Int’l Exhibition. And they selected 3 of my photos for that exhibition. My first ever international public appearance. And with 3 photos I really like and that mean a great deal to me. A big thank you to my models!

I got a few photos from the exhibition that show my work on display.

These are the actual photos that were on display.

Apertura Jr.?

Day 2 of the Apertura Expo was a success. I didn’t even have to leave the car there. Not drunk at all tonight!

2 very young ladies asked if they could join Apertura. We told them they have to be at least be 16 to join. They want to join so badly, that they came up with the idea of starting a junior version of Apertura. They even wrote a 3 page letter to motivate their request. We promised them we will seriously consider their request and discus it with all members. And I think they stand chance if they promise to work really hard.

Apertura Expo Opening Night

I just got home from the very first night of the very first Apertura expo. A little drunk and really tired, but pretty happy. Because tonight was a big success! It was better then I expected. Thanks everyone for the hard work and the support!

Invitation

We’re only a few days away from the very 1st expo with Apertura. I am very excited about it. A lot of work an preparation has gone into it and I’m sure it will be a success. Feel free to drop by at ‘t Komplot and check us out. Expo opens Friday, November 14. It will be also open on November 15 and 16.

I’ve made my selection of prints… A little project called Totally Dedicated to Ohana.

Apertura SD at Hasselt Prison

I’ve spent today in prison! Euh… most of the gang of Apertura spent today in prison: we had our monthly shooting day at the abandoned prison in Hasselt. Bart arranged access to the site… Thank you Bart! Excellent job and great fun!

Model for the day was Mariana (who else?)… Thanks a million for putting up with me again girl. I’ll be adding results to the album as soon as I get the photos post processed.

Exposition After-Party

DIFO’s 30th exposition opened yesterday evening. I took my best friends home for a cocktail after-party after the opening.

In a matter of moments, the kitchen looked like a war zone, but nobody seemed to mind. Alain turned out to be a true mojito master. Turns out that most of the mojitos were made with basil instead of mind ’cause Bart doesn’t know the difference between the 2 herbs.

Friends meeting friends. People chatting away everywhere. Models giving make-overs to photographers. Everyone showing off their photos. Springsteen music in the background. Chips… and drinks… lot’s of drinks!
