Music for Life

Music for Life

Studio Brussel kicked off the 3rd edition of Music for Life this morning : a 6 day charity event in support of Rode Kruis Vlaanderen. Major Termonte of the city of Gent, the city that hosts the event this year, had the privilidge to request the 1st song this morning. He asked for Springsteen’s version of an Edwin Starr classic… He requested this song…

Free Support

The European Commission, the OECD and the Belgium government say that not enough people in Belgium are computer savvy and that not enough people in Belgium have access to the Internet. Point taken. I totally agree. And I support every sensible effort to get more people to use the Internet.

But when I hear decision makers suggest that people should seek free help from friends, family or neighbors to solve computer problems, I get a bit upset.

WTF?! If my car breaks down, I take it to a dealership to have fixed, and I pay the bill. If my dishwasher breaks down, I ask a mechanic to come and fix it, and I pay the bill. If my heating breaks down… Oooh… You get the picture.

Tell me why I should fix computer problems for free? Did I not study hard to become an ICT engineer? Do I not invest time and money to keep up to date?

If someone feels like giving me a gift for the holidays or maybe even a late birthday gift, Think Geek has the right t-shirt for me.

First Snow

It snowed today!!! For the first time this winter. It is so funny that we all make a big deal out of frozen water. But anyway… I made a big deal out of it, ran outside and built me a snowman. Well euh… I had a little help from a good friend. We had so much fun in the snow tonight…

Goodluck, Goodbye

Well I came by your house the other day, your mother said you went away
She said there was nothing that I could have done
There was nothing nobody could say
Me and you we’ve known each other ever since we were sixteen
I wished I would have known I wished I could have called you
Just to say goodbye Bobby Jean

“My Hometown”

In the news today: Nyrstar announces the intention to restructure their Balen/Overpelt plant. They intent to close the zinc production unit at the Balen plant: 200 jobs are at risk there.

For almost 25 years, I lived minutes away from that plant. My dad worked there. When I heard the news, I felt like the guy in Springsteen’s My Hometown. 200 jobs gone… a shock to the community over there, I’m sure. My heart is at home tonight; my heart is sad tonight.

Exposition After-Party

DIFO’s 30th exposition opened yesterday evening. I took my best friends home for a cocktail after-party after the opening.

In a matter of moments, the kitchen looked like a war zone, but nobody seemed to mind. Alain turned out to be a true mojito master. Turns out that most of the mojitos were made with basil instead of mind ’cause Bart doesn’t know the difference between the 2 herbs.

Friends meeting friends. People chatting away everywhere. Models giving make-overs to photographers. Everyone showing off their photos. Springsteen music in the background. Chips… and drinks… lot’s of drinks!

Goin’ on an hour and a half of sleep right now. But it was the best damn cocktail party ever! Thank you guys! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Indepence Day

Well Papa go to bed now it’s getting late
Nothing we can say can change anything now
Because there’s just different people coming down here now
and they see things in different ways
And soon everything we’ve known will just be swept awaySo say goodbye it’s Independence Day
Papa now I know the things you wanted that you could not say
But won’t you just say goodbye it’s Independence Day
I swear I never meant to take those things away

Hana and her Little Doll

My friend Hana works at De Poppenzaal in Turnhout. She made a little doll for the cultuurmarkt in Antwerp and Turnhout. I couldn’t go and see in Antwerp, ’cause I had a photoshoot that day. But PhotoVaganza or no PhotoVaganza: I could not refuse to go and see her in my own backyard.

Hana introduced me to her little doll and I shot a couple of images of the both of them.
