Look In Their Eyes…

Bruce Springsteen and Tom Mortello (Rage Against the Machine and the Nightwatch Men) perform The Ghost of Tom Joad with the E-Street Band at the LA Sports Arena on April 15. A display of pure and raw emotion. This is why I love Springsteen’s music I guess.

Gymmax Show

I went to see the gymshow of Gymmax Dendermonde. Pretty impressive show! And very hard to make a nice shot. I think a managed to get a couple decent photos though (more…)

But for me, this show was all about these 2 little girls: Maya and Morgan. They invited me to come see them at the show. And there is no way I could refuse their request.

They did very good. I am so proud of both girls! Both of them deserved a kiss and a big hug…

Long Time, No See

I went down to Kortijk yesterday evening for the retirement party of a former Barco Chromatics colleague. I hadn’t seen Rich in about 10 years. In fact, I hadn’t met most of the people there in almost 10 years. It was great to meet them again. A very big “thank you” to Cindy for inviting me!

Rich was kind enough to pose with me for a farwell photo, and I have a few more shots in this album.

Rich: I wish you all the best, and I promise to come and visit whenever I’m in the Atlanta Area.

People in Cars

Time for a little rant: a rainy Thursday afternoon, a single accident causes total gridlock around Antwerp. All traffic comes to a grinding halt and I will be spending almost 2.5 hours to get home.

And right there in the middle of that mess, someone’s car breaks down. As the driver struggles to push the car to the side of the road at least 25 other cars pass by. Not one of them pulls over to give the unfortunate driver a hand and help to clear the road as soon as possible.

Pffff…. Have we all become so self-centered that we’ld rather run over someone than get him a hand?

The Stuff that Dreams Are Made off

There’s a place out on the edge of town sir
Risin’ above the factories and the fields
Now ever since I was a child I can remember that mansion on the hill

In the summer all the lights would shine there’d be music playin’ people laughin’ all the time
Me and my sister we’d hide out in the tall corn fields
Sit and listen to the mansion on the hill

Feelin’ ‘Ohana

I have a very nice shot of my best friend Luc at the overlook at the Warche in Falize (at geocache GCWQGV).

It’s been ages since we went geocaching. We logged 2 this weekend and it was great to be outdoors again. It was great to be with my big brother again. Thanks Bro! For everything!

Points of View

I attended Points of View, organized by CvB and FgA, tonight: an chance for photographers to show their work to a larger audience. 3 ladies presented their work: Karina Brys, Sanne Weckx and Janna Beck. They were supposed to give us a new fresh point of view on photography. They did! But to some it was either too technically imperfect or too gloomy. I know everybody is entitled to his/her opinion and one can not argue about taste. But one has to know how to express his/her point of view without having to resort to hurtfull remarks about photos that belong on toilet paper.

For what it’s worth, my point of view: let art be art. Art can be pretty, but doesn’t always have to be. Art always has to trigger an emotion. Respect the work of the maker, respect his/her opinion. Listen closely… You might learn something.

And BTW: Sanne, I loved your work!

Champagne Challenge

I always seem to look goofy or very angry on photos. Talking to some friends at a party, I came up with a good idea for a little contest: make me look good on a photo…

These are the rules:
(1) Your photo has to be recent. i.e. has to be made after october 2008;
(2) My face has to be recognizable;
(3) You may not alter the photo using Photoshop or the likes;
(4) The contest ends on october 1st, 2009.

Send your photos to me by mail. I will be the sole judge in this little contest. Maybe I’ll ask my sisters for their opinion too. The winner will be treated to a bottle of champagne. If there is a photo I like of course.

Your photo should make me look better than in these 2…

1st Good Deed in 2009

2009 is just a couple of hours old and I’ve done my 1st good deed: I took a young girl home that was hitch hiking home after a new year’s eve party. I even did a little detour to make sure that she was getting where she needed to be. I wonder if I will be rewarded for my good deeds this year?
