Last year, I had Sharon in the studio and we started experimenting with color gels. When she came in early 2018 for another studio shoot, we did pretty much everything with color gels. With good result, I might add.
When we finally turned the colors down, we shot a series of black and white portraits. I liked this one quite a lot.
Brian Fallon, a native of New Brunswick, NJ hit the music scene as front man of the punk rock band The Gaslight Anthem in 2006. They attracted the attention of myself, Bruce Springsteen and the world with the release of their album The ’59 Sound. After the band went on indefinite hiatus, Brian Fallon started a solo carreer, releasing his 1st solo album Painkillers in 2016 and his sophomore album Sleepwalkers early 2018. He is currently touring the US and Europe with his band The Howling Weather and he played De Roma in Antwerp last night.

A while ago, I was looking for a make-up artist for one of my photo shoots. I remembered that Ashley, a model I have with a couple of times, had recently graduated as make-up and hair stylist. So I asked if she wanted to be my make-up artist and if she wanted to model for me once again too. She came in to work as a make-up artist, we set a date for shoot together.
She said she wanted so sporty portraits and some fashion portraits with color gels. So in a matter of minutes we had everything set up for a shoot that turned out a couple of cool pics.
I’ve finished 2017 with a bang: working with the incredibly talented model Jolien is always a blast. It had been a while since we’ve seen each other and since we talked. So we had some catching up to do before, after and during the shoot. Worked all afternoon in a very relaxed atmosphere and turned out a couple of nice shots.
We did all that with the help of Shari, a very good make-up artist that Jolien brought on set. It was very nice to meet her and work with her. I’m hoping to collaborate with Shari some more in 2018. And with Jolien too, of course.
2017 was quite a good year for my photography. I decided to only work on TfP basis and only on projects I wanted to work on. It meant less photos, more time for fun, better planning, more learning and cooler photos. And I had the good fortune to meet a very talented make-up artist that I get along with very well.
The result is a 4 minute video reel with the highlights of my collaborations with model Shannety and make-up artist Elem. Well, actually, this video covers about a year and a half of working with these 2 lovely ladies. But who’s complaining?
And yup, I taught myself to basic video editing in Apple iMovie and Adobe Photoshop.

I had a fun shoot with Annelies the other day. Totally unscripted, no moodboards, a couple of vague ideas. That’s all there was. I had a model who canceled her appointment. I dropped Annelies a little line to see if she was free to shoot, and I immediately go a reply with a very enthusiastic “YES PLEASE!” A big thanks to Annelies for stepping in at the last minute. I love working with reliable and enthusiastic models like her.
I have a couple of cool photos of Shannety I wanted to share. These were done on the same day as the photo shoot with Romi. Not just this one that graces the both of them, but also a couple of just Shannety.
I picked up some latex lingerie from William Wilde at the autumn sale. Perfect for a quick shoot with Shannety. 2 outfits that mix and match with other stuff in my collection. They’ll come in handy on future projects.
Magalie is leaving for South Africa tomorrow to represent Belgium in the Mrs. World pageant. And I had the honor of shooting her official pageant portraits. I love working with Magalie. Talking to her in between shoots, we realized that we don’t work together often enough. We vowed to change that in 2018. After all, whenever we work together we create cool photos.
I wish Magalie good luck and a lot of fun in South Africa. I look forward to hearing her stories when she gets back. One thing’s certain: her little baby boy will be rooting for his mommy when she leaves for South Africa tomorrow. And, he may miss her a little bit too.
A little photographic impression of the 2018 Light of Day concert in Belgium. The Light of Day Foundation, raises awareness and funds to support research to defeat Parkinson’s disease. It started in 1998 as a birthday party for music veteran Bob Benjamin who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease himself. For 20 years, Light of Day benefit concerts are held in the US and Europe. My friend and fellow Springsteen fan Jeffrey De Roeck organizes a Light of Day show in Belgium for quite some years. I cover the show as photographer every year.
