Pearl Harbor Remembered

On the morning of December 7, 1941 the Imperial Japanese Navy launched a surprise attack on the American naval base of Pearl Harbor, HI. 2350 persons—military and civilian—lost their lives during the attack. Of the military personnel lost at Pearl Harbor, 1177 were from the USS Arizona. 1 aerial bomb struck the Arizona’s forward magazine causing a catastrophic explosion that sunk the battleship in just 9 minutes.

Until today the wreck of the USS Arizona remains a memorial to those perished that day.

On December 7th, 2001 I attended the ceremonies to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the attack. It was and still is a very moving experience for me. And since then, I will pause on December 7th to remember the attack.
