40 Years of Small Steps

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the 1st man walking on the moon. Although I wasn’t born in 1969, it still is a defining moment for me: I remember bein’ mesmerized by  photos from the Apollo missions. Those images triggered my interest in space exploration and eventually helped trigger my interest in science and technology, I guess.

It is amazing how much we’ve accomplished in those 40 years, and yet we still have a long way to go…

Feelin’ ‘Ohana

I have a very nice shot of my best friend Luc at the overlook at the Warche in Falize (at geocache GCWQGV).

It’s been ages since we went geocaching. We logged 2 this weekend and it was great to be outdoors again. It was great to be with my big brother again. Thanks Bro! For everything!

Update Completed

My site received a massive behind-the-scenes update: WordPress, Gallery2 and all of the plug-ins I use have been brought up to the latest version. You should not see any diference or at least not a lot.

Site Update In Progress

Hold on folks… I’m updating my WordPress software and my MySQL database. Expect a few hiccups while I do this.

Free Support

The European Commission, the OECD and the Belgium government say that not enough people in Belgium are computer savvy and that not enough people in Belgium have access to the Internet. Point taken. I totally agree. And I support every sensible effort to get more people to use the Internet.

But when I hear decision makers suggest that people should seek free help from friends, family or neighbors to solve computer problems, I get a bit upset.

WTF?! If my car breaks down, I take it to a dealership to have fixed, and I pay the bill. If my dishwasher breaks down, I ask a mechanic to come and fix it, and I pay the bill. If my heating breaks down… Oooh… You get the picture.

Tell me why I should fix computer problems for free? Did I not study hard to become an ICT engineer? Do I not invest time and money to keep up to date?

If someone feels like giving me a gift for the holidays or maybe even a late birthday gift, Think Geek has the right t-shirt for me.

Site Restored

My site has been finally been restored. There was a hardware failure on the server earlier this week, which affected my site. The database powering my blog and my gallery was corrupt. But the support team at Combell (my hosting provider) have done an excellent job at restoring my site.

Website Theme Update

Finally got around to updating this website’s theme. It was long overdue. And it only took me a couple of hours. Pffff… another short night.

If you find any bugs, or if you see any inconsistencies, please report them using the contact form.

Apple Adept

I finally did it… I bought an Apple MacBook Pro! After years and years of bitchin’ about the other OS, I finally got fed up with all of it. With every software update, something always went wrong on the other laptop. I ended up having to restore the damn thing every 2 months. No more! This shiny laptop is mine…

MacBook Pro
I’ve become an Apple Adept and I like it. Can’t wait for the iPhone to become available in Belgium.

New Theme for Website

I finished the new theme for our website. After extensive testing, the v7.0 theme is now online.

With this theme update, I will also be implementing new gallery software: Gallery2. This image gallery will perfectly integrate with our current WordPress blog software. I have started migrating the photos, starting with the lasted albums. As long as the migration has not been completed, photos remain available through gallery.victorie.com (our old gallery).

Find our new gallery here.

Links Updated

I have removed the links page from the site. I moved to most interesting links to the menu on the left. It is too troublesome to maintain, and it was confusing to have links in the menu and on a separate page.
